Finding Steadiness When the World Feels Unstable

There is so much going on in the world right now that is deeply disturbing. From political unrest to senseless violence, from global instability to economic strain, it is frightening. The scariest part of it all is the uncertainty. What does the future hold not just for us, but for our children…and their children.

How do we reconcile all this chaos and still live a life rooted in peace? How do we keep our minds from being consumed when everywhere we turn, there is bad news? I ask these questions not just rhetorically but from a place of experience. Because even as the world spins out of control, everyday life does not stop. There is still the grief of losing loved ones. There are still health battles, unemployment, inflation, and mental fatigue. There is still the pain of broken relationships, shattered dreams, and trying to make ends meet. These alone are enough to overwhelm anyone.

Yet, we are still expected to show up for work. We have to be there for our families, for our children and for those who look to us for strength when we barely feel strong ourselves. That is really challenging.

Well, here is the truth: we are not alone nor are we without direction.

God never promised that the world would be easy. In fact, He told us plainly in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This is not just a comfort. It is a call, a reminder that while the world around us may be in turmoil, we are rooted in something unshakable.

We were never meant to carry the weight of the world, but we were called to carry light into the world.

Yes, we must stay aware. We must prepare and pivot when necessary. We must be wise and discerning in times like these. We must also not lose sight of our calling to love our neighbors, to care for the sick, to uplift the brokenhearted, to support the widows and the least of these—just as the Word of God tells us.

The temptation is to shut down and to numb ourselves. It is easy to focus only on our own comfort. However, this is not the time to shrink back. This is the time to stand firm…to be the peace in someone else’s storm. Now is when we must model grace and hope and steadfastness even when we do not feel like it.

I say this with compassion, not condemnation because I face the same challenges every day. Some mornings, it takes everything in me just to breathe deeply and start the day. Nonetheless, I remind myself that even when I do not feel peace, I can choose it.

Peace is not the absence of problems. Rather, it is the presence of God. It is choosing to believe that He still sits on the throne, even when the earth is shaking.

So today, I encourage you to breathe.

Ground yourself in truth.
Pray.
Pivot if you need to.
Prepare where you can.
Whatever you do, do not let fear rob you of your joy or purpose.

Keep showing up.

Keep shining.

Keep carrying the light.

Most of all, stay focused, not consumed. We were created for such a time as this.

Choosing peace,

Coach Erika
