Choosing to passionately pursue God is a deeply personal decision—one that often leaves others questioning, judging, or even criticizing. You might hear comments that challenge your beliefs or witness people distancing themselves because they cannot relate to your spiritual path. But despite the misunderstandings and negativity, this journey is uniquely yours. Pursue God anyway.
Why Faith May Set You Apart
My journey to follow Christ began at 14, and then, at 23, I re-affirmed my commitment to Him. I had just graduated college, so it was definitely not a popular choice among my peers. Many of my friends were not at the same place spiritually and were still seeking worldly experiences. The more I devoted myself to God, the more I found that my values and lifestyle no longer aligned with those of my old friend group. My unwillingness to participate in certain activities made it increasingly difficult to remain close to those friendships. While it was painful to watch some of those relationships fade, I knew that God was calling me to a life that set me apart. Pursuing Him meant creating space for new relationships that would support my faith journey. I accepted that as part of my commitment to follow Christ.
Choosing Faith Over Approval
Living with purpose means setting your sights on what feels right for your spirit. However, faith is not always “fashionable.” Society often celebrates instant gratification, material success, and achievements that can be counted or measured. The path of faith, however, thrives on trust, hope, and love. These are values that do not always produce visible results. Pursuing God, especially with passion, might be misunderstood by those who do not share that calling, and it is easy to feel isolated or even questioned for your commitment.
Choosing Faith Over Approval
It can be tempting to seek validation for every choice we make, but faith invites us to live beyond the need for approval. People may see your choice as something to question or doubt. However, that does not have to waver your commitment. Faith demands a willingness to stay anchored in something greater than the opinions of others.
Remember, God does not ask us to change people’s minds. Rather, He asks us to keep our eyes on Him. So, let the opinions come and go. Recognize that others’ understanding is not a prerequisite for your peace.
Embracing Your Path
In times of solitude, prayer, or reflection, remind yourself why you are pursuing God. It is not to gain popularity, to fit in, or to receive the applause of others. You are choosing to seek a relationship that fulfills you on a soul-deep level. When doubts arise, or criticism feels too close to home, return to that purpose. Your journey in faith is your own, and it will lead you toward a sense of peace, wisdom, and joy that surpasses understanding.
Finding Strength to Continue
Each day, choose to go forward with an open heart and grounded spirit. Surround yourself with those who uplift and support you on this journey. If you find yourself walking alone, know that you are never truly alone. God’s presence is constant, and He sees and honors every effort you make to draw closer.
So, despite the criticism, the misunderstanding, or even the loneliness that may come from following this path, pursue God anyway. It is the best decision you will ever make.

Fully committed,
Erika
